03 · Three ways to fill a sheet
By hand, by bounding box, or by the real cut line.
Method A
Arranging by hand
- Placement: by eye, piece by piece.
- Rotation: whatever you have the patience for.
- Gaps: no measurement, just a feeling.
- Cost: operator minutes on every single kit, and it gets worse as the piece count grows.
Method B
Rectangular nesting
- Placement: by the bounding box around each piece.
- Rotation: usually 90° steps.
- Gaps: fine, but the box keeps its own empty corners.
- Cost: every diagonal, curved or L-shaped piece drags dead film along with it.
Method C · TrueNest Pro
True-shape nesting
- Placement: by the real cut contour, so pieces enter each other's gaps.
- Rotation: any angle that saves space, never mirrored.
- Gaps: your bleed and blade margin, checked and displayed.
- Cost: one selection, two clicks, 8 s to 1 min of search (longer for multi-sheet kits), inside the file you already have open.
04 · Inside the panel
Built around how a shop actually prints and cuts.
No export, no import
A panel inside Illustrator, not another program to learn. It reads your groups and the spot colour of your cut lines (CutContour by default, or your own name).
It respects your cut settings
Set bleed per piece and blade margin once. The panel measures the real gap between cuts, tells you when it comes back under your setting, and refuses layouts that are too tight.
Preview first, then apply
The layout appears in the panel before anything moves in your document. Optimize searches again and keeps the better result. After Apply, Cmd+Z (Ctrl+Z on Windows), pressed as many times as needed, brings your file back.
Big jobs, several sheets
Enter your roll width and maximum sheet height. When a kit does not fit, TrueNest Pro fills up to 40 sheets, each on its own artboard trimmed to the height actually used.
Finishing, done for you
Right after Apply, for the options you tick: cut lines and artwork sorted onto two layers you name the way your RIP expects, up to three logos placed in the free space, the order number printed with its own cut frame, and registration marks for selected Graphtec and Summa cutters (beta: check your first sheet).
Your language, your units, offline
English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese, in millimetres, centimetres or inches. Once activated the licence renews itself, and without internet the panel keeps working for about two weeks.
05 · Three steps
From open file to cut sheet.
Settings are entered once and remembered. After that, nesting a kit is a selection and two clicks.

Prepare your file
Each piece is one group: its artwork plus its cut line in a spot colour.

Nest
Sheet width, height, bleed and blade margin go in once. Select your pieces, pick a search time (8 s, 30 s or 1 min) and click Nest selection.

Apply and cut
Check the preview, click Apply, then print and cut the sheet exactly as you do today.
06 · Will it run here?
Check your setup before you install.
- Illustrator
- 2020 (version 24) or later. Panel loads inside Illustrator, no separate app.
- Mac
- macOS 11 Big Sur or later, Intel or Apple Silicon. Installs from a .zxp file with an extension installer app.
- Windows
- Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. Installs from a .zip file, no installer needed.
- Your files
- Cut lines drawn with a spot colour swatch, named CutContour by default (another name works). One group per piece.
- Cutters
- Any cutter: the panel lays out a normal print-and-cut file. Registration marks for selected Graphtec and Summa models (beta: check your first sheet).
- Internet
- Needed to activate, then the licence renews itself whenever Illustrator opens online. Offline it keeps working about two weeks after the last renewal.
- Languages & units
- English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese · mm, cm or inch.
- One caution
- Pieces are turned to any angle and there is no keep-upright setting, so take care with directional films (brushed, carbon or reflective vinyl).
How many computers do I get?
Solo covers 1, Studio covers 2. Subscriptions stack on the same e-mail address: two Solo give 2 computers, Solo plus Studio give 3. The free trial runs on 1. Changing machine? Write to us and we free the old one.
Can it damage my file?
Nothing moves in your document until you click Apply: the layout is shown in the panel first. After Apply, Cmd+Z or Ctrl+Z, pressed as many times as needed, brings your file back. Saving before you nest is still the safest.
Will it turn pieces on directional vinyl?
Yes. Pieces are turned to any angle to save space, and there is no setting to keep them upright. Take care with films that have a direction, such as brushed, carbon or reflective.
How does the free trial work?
